East Beach Anthology Submission Guidelines

We are currently accepting submissions to a second volume of BY THE BAY: EAST BEACH STORIES, a collection of short stories set in and around the East Beach neighborhood. Start writing! The deadline is February 28, 2016. Anticipated publication is April/May 2017.

OVERVIEW:
·          Submissions will be accepted between December 1, 2015, and February 28, 2016.
·          Members of the East Beach Writer’s Guild or residents of East Beach peninsula are eligible to submit.
·          Each eligible person may submit up to two manuscripts. However, only one manuscript will be accepted in the initial round of review. Caveat: If we do not receive enough submissions, additional stories by the same author may be selected.
·          Submissions may be fiction or nonfiction.
·          Stories must be between 3,500–7,000 words and must be an original story that has not been previously published.
·          All submissions must portray the neighborhood of East Beach in a favorable light, and East Beach must be central to the story.
·          There will be no author compensation. 100% of proceeds will be donated to local charitable causes which support literacy. Charities will be determined by the East Beach Writer’s Guild

AUTHOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
·          Each author who submits a story agrees to read and evaluate two submissions for inclusion in the anthology based on a preprinted Submission Review Sheet, rating in areas of readability, enjoyability, etc.
·          Each author whose work is accepted for publication will be required to sign a contract. A sample contract will be provided upon request.
·          Publisher acquires First World Anthology Rights. Author agrees to not publish accepted story in any other format until 60 days after publication in this anthology.
·          Each contributing author will agree to serve on at least one committee that will aid in the production and promotion of the anthology.  Preliminary list of committees:
Ø  Charities (identify and communicate)
Ø  Promotion/Marketing (traditional for book launch and book signings—to include but not limited to Pilot, EBPL magazine, local print magazines, perhaps a news release to radio and TV stations, also promo items such as bookmarks etc, maybe something on Goodreads, too?)
Ø  Inventory (requires handling books at all signing events and making sure that stores carrying the books do not run out of inventory)
Ø  Social Media—Facebook/Twitter/Snapchat/Tmblr and anything else new
Ø  Blog
Ø  Author event (party to celebrate amongst authors)
Ø  Book Launch event
Ø  Book Reviews—work to remind people and writers we need reviews!
·                  Each member who submits a manuscript further agrees to promote and attend local book signings and events for the anthology.
